Foundation Becomes Newest Bucks Back Member of GK1 Sports
GK1 Sports, a sports apparel and equipment company based in New Jersey, officially announced that it has formed a partnership with the Cristine Meredith Miele Foundation (CMMF), which funds research to assist early breast cancer detection and awareness. As part of the alliance, the CMMF has joined the GK1 Sports “Bucks Back” Program, giving everybody who shops online at the GK1 Sports store the opportunity to donate a portion of their purchase to the foundation.
“Cristine was a personal friend of mine, so it is an honor to partner with the foundation established to remember her legacy,” Etta Kelly of GK1 Sports commented. “Cristine was someone who continually gave back to her community, and we are happy to find a way to give back in the same type of manner she always did. This is exactly the kind of cause that we had in mind when we developed our Bucks Back Program.”
Miele was a mother, wife, friend and someone who thoroughly enjoyed her life. In addition to traveling and cooking, she spent much of her time playing a variety of sports. She was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer when she was just 28-years-old and pregnant with her third child. Miele and her unborn son underwent a radical mastectomy and chemotherapy together, and she eventually delivered her son early so she could continue her treatment. 12 years after her original diagnosis, the cancer returned, this time affecting her liver, lungs and bones. She fought the cancer until her last days, but she unfortunately lost her battle in July of 2010. In honor of her memory, the Cristine Meredith Miele Foundation was created.
“Cristine’s story is humbling and truly inspirational,” said Tony Meola, CEO of GK1 Sports. “Despite her hardships, she continued to live her live to its fullest potential, and the effect she had on those around continues to live on today. We are proud to partner with the Cristine Meredith Miele Foundation, and we look forward to assisting them in their great cause.”
Anyone shopping at the GK1 Sports online store can support the Cristine Meredith Miele Foundation at checkout when asked what charitable organization they wish to support. A percentage of their purchase will then be donated to the foundation.
Founded as GK1 Soccer in 2008, GK1 Sports looks to establish itself as one of the leading sports apparel and equipment companies in the industry. Owned and operated by ORSO LLC, GK1 Sports is managed by three-time World Cup goalkeeper Tony Meola, former accessories designer Etta Kelly and Enrico Lamberti serving as its Vice President of Business Development.
A personal touch is given to each product created by GK1 Sports, having players with professional experience, such as Meola himself, give insight into the development of the apparel and equipment. The products are designed with the athlete in mind, all the while using the mind of an athlete to create each piece of sports attire. While initially establishing its mark within the game of soccer, GK1 Sports has since branched out into a variety of sports, composing products for players of all levels. The brand is also spreading into categories that are universal to sports, including Compression Wear, Performance Wear, Sports Apparel, in addition to an Off the Pitch and complete line of Uniforms.
