Newark Hopes to Bounce Back from Earlier Defeat to Rough Riders
The Express have suffered only a single defeat at Lubetkin Field
Newark, N.J. (Tuesday, May 26, 2009) – The Newark Ironbound Express (3-2-0) have a perfect opportunity to avenge a defeat to the Long Island Rough Riders (3-1-0) earlier this month when they play host to their Northeast Division foes on Wednesday evening. Slated for an 8:00 p.m. kickoff, the Express will look to take back the three points from that aforementioned loss when the two meet at Lubetkin Field at NJIT.
For the first time this season, the Express had this past weekend off, but it came at somewhat of an expense to the team. With the Brooklyn Knights (3-0-2) defeating the New Jersey Rangers (0-3-1) by a count of 2-1 this past Saturday night, they have now moved two points ahead of Newark. The two clubs met on opening weekend with Brooklyn handing the Express their first home loss in franchise history. The Ocean City Barons (3-0-1) also jumped Newark in the standings after picking up a pair of road wins over the New Hampshire Phantoms (0-5-1) and the Rhode Island Stingrays (1-2-1) in consecutive days this past weekend.
Looking up in the standings puts a heavy amount of pressure on the Express to pick up the victory over Long Island tomorrow night, and a win would elevate Newark back into first place in the division. In fact the next week will give the Express a pretty good idea at how the season is going to shake out. After hosting the Rough Riders on Wednesday evening, they will hit the road to face the Westchester Flames (1-1-2) on Saturday night before returning to the friendly confines of Lubetkin Field to host the U.S. Open Cup bound Barons on Sunday evening at 4:00 p.m.
