Co-Promotion to Feature Fighter Exchanges and Dual Events
After the news was broken on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani on Tuesday afternoon, ProElite MMA has confirmed a partnership with Japanese promotion DREAM. As part of the union, the two groups plan to host co-promoted events in both the United States and Japan, and fighter exchanges will also be done among the two shows for their upcoming cards.
“Our partnership with DREAM forms a promotional bond with the most prominent Japanese MMA organization,” ProElite President Billy Kelly said of the alliance. “DREAM has developed a stable of great fighters on their roster and a strong team behind the scenes. With this exchange, the two organizations are building a cultural and fight-event bridge that our fans are sure to welcome.”
The partnership officially kicks into gear this Saturday when ProElite hosts its first show of 2012, highlighted by a main event between DREAM representative Ikuhisa “Minowaman” Minowa and The Ultimate Fighter 3 winner Kendall “Da Spyder” Grove at the Neal Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. The card will also feature the voice of former PRIDE and current DREAM announcer Lenne Hardt, who will lend her voice to the fighter entrances.
“I’m really honored to join the partnership with ProElite,” DREAM Event Producer Keiichi Sasahara remarked. “It is important for us to exploit Asian or Pan-pacific markets by improving relationships with foreign organizations like ProElite. We would like to make this fighter exchange program a first step to generate synergistic success for both organizations.”
The televised portion of ProElite Presents: Da Spyder vs. Minowaman will be aired live on HDNet, hitting the network at 10:00 p.m. EST.
