Burnaby, BC, Canada (Monday, June 8, 2009) – Fans at Swangard Stadium and those watching online at USLlive.com enjoyed a highly contested match between the Pali Blues Soccer Club (2-0-2) and the host Vancouver Whitecaps (0-0-3) on Sunday night. After 90 hard fought minutes between these two clubs, the result was a 1-1 draw.

"It was a very slow start to the match, but once again, we were happy with the team’s character coming from behind and putting itself in position to win,” Blues head coach Charlie Naimo stated. “It is early, we are still undefeated, and we became a better team this weekend. I feel it would have been fair coming home with two wins."

The defending W-League champions concluded their well-traveled weekend north of the border after a tough road pairing with the Seattle Sounders (2-0-3) on Friday evening, and the Blues displayed strong perseverance in going full-force on Sunday. Their legs may have been a bit tired at the onset of the game, but they quickly got their game legs under them to eventually become the aggressors in this contest.

The Whitecaps did strike first in this battle when Amy Vermeulen set up a Kirsteen Buchan tally in the 28th minute, and the 1-0 count stood as the whistle was blown for intermission. Naimo made adjustments at the half, and the Blues came out with an inspired effort as soon as the opening kick started the second 45. In the 54th minute, UNC product Nikki Washington delivered a nice cross to the left flank, and Mexican National Team forward Iris Mora was there to power the ball into the back of the net. After the equalizer, the Blues remained on the attack to create opportunities for themselves, but their attempts would just miss their target. After the final whistle was blown, the scoreboard would be knotted up at a goal each.

Goalkeeper Kristin Olsen took the draw in net for the Blues, registering three saves on the evening.

Next up for the Blues is a road match-up with the Real Colorado Cougars on Friday night. The Blues next play at the Stadium by the Sea on Tuesday, June 23rd, at 7:00 p.m. against Vancouver. Tickets for that game can be purchased today by calling (310) 264-4649.
