Red Bank Catholic Senior Joining Full Wildcats Side this Summer
When upcoming Red Bank Catholic senior Liz Thoresen steps onto the Lions Stadium field at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) this summer as a member of the New Jersey Wildcats, the playmaking midfielder will be getting a glimpse of her future. Thoresen, who currently plays with the Wildcats Thunder-ASL U-17 side, recently committed to TCNJ, and she will be suiting up for its women’s soccer program beginning in the fall of 2014.
"Liz is a crafty midfielder that knives apart defenses with perfectly weighted final passes and also coming off the dribble,” Wildcats head coach Kevin McDermott stated. “Liz will have a great career at TCNJ. She has a powerful and accurate outside shot, not to mention being one of the hardest workers in our club both on and off the field.”
Thoresen will be a senior this fall at Red Bank Catholic High School, making her a four-year varsity player. The Colts Neck native has started at center midfielder for the Caseys during the past two seasons, and the 2011 Asbury Park Press Shore Conference Sophomore of the Year has also received the honor of being named one of the Top Midfielders in Monmouth County. Her time at Red Bank Catholic has been a highly successful one, winning three conference titles, two state sectional crowns and a New Jersey State Championship.
As a member of the Wildcats Youth Soccer Club, Thoresen has served as captain at the U-15, U-16 and U-17 level. Additionally, she was first named to the Wildcats Senior Team at the age of just 15-years-old. As a member of the Wildcats, the three-time MOSA Select Team honoree has reached great achievements, both individually and on the team level.
Thoresen will get her first taste of the pitch at TCNJ when the Wildcats open the 2013 USL W-League season at The College of New Jersey in Ewing on Wednesday, May 22nd, hosting the North Jersey Valkyries at 7:45 p.m. Tickets for all Wildcats home matches are now available and can be attained by calling 732-298-7619. Individual game tickets as well as team and family packages are available.
The New Jersey Wildcats played their debut season in the USL W-League in 1996 and have competed every year since. The team compiled a 41-1 regular season record from 2004-06, winning regular season titles in 2004 and 2006 while taking the W-League championship in 2005. Following the 2005 season, the Wildcats were named the USL Franchise of the Year. After the completion of the 2008 season, USP Soccer headlined a new ownership regime for the Wildcats, and the team received postseason bids after each of its first three seasons with the group at the helm. The Wildcats are one of the longest running franchises in women’s soccer history, with the team kicking off its 18th year of play this summer in the W-League.
