Blues Playing #1 Overall Seed in Hudson Valley

Pacific Palisades, Calif. (Monday, July 27, 2009) – After an inspired rally late in the second half of the Western Conference championship this past Saturday provided a 5-2 victory over the Colorado Force, the defending USL W-League champion Pali Blues Soccer Club are heading east this Friday to play the Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues, who are the top-ranked team in the playoffs. After falling behind 2-1 in the 72nd minute against Colorado last weekend, the Blues tallied four unanswered goals to advance to their final four match this Friday.

“The feeling around here is positive,” Blues head coach Charlie Naimo recently stated. “This is just a great group and I want to see them succeed. They deserve it.”

In their 2008 championship run, the Blues finished a perfect 14-0 and did not face a deficit until the 48th minute of the W-League title game against the FC Indiana Lionesses last summer in Virginia Beach. In similar fashion to what they did last weekend, the Blues rallied for two late goals and the league crown. The 2009 edition of the Blues also have a highly talented roster similar to the 2008 version that sent 15 players to Women’s Professional Soccer this season, and an improved Western Conference tested the squad this year in their pursuit of back-to-back titles. While the Blues did hang three draws on their 2009 record, their win last weekend runs their unbeaten streak to 27 straight contests since joining the W-League.

Standing in the way of a second straight championship game appearance is the highest seeded side in the 2009 postseason in Hudson Valley. The Blues will make the nearly 3,000-mile hike to Long Island this week, and they are focused on their 7:30 p.m. date with Quickstrike this Friday at Newburgh Free Academy. The pairing looks to be outstanding match-up of all phases, and the hometown crowd will likely escalate to well over 2,000 patrons. The winner of the game on Friday will face the victor of the Washington Freedom/Ottawa Fury match for the W-League title next weekend.
