Sky Blue FC made a Cinderella run to the inaugural WPS championship
Sky Blue FC is Inaugural Women’s Professional Soccer Champions
Somerset, N.J. (Friday, September 25, 2009) – Today marks a very exciting day in the history of Resolution Sports as the company formally announces a partnership with Sky Blue FC, the defending champions of Women’s Professional Soccer. Resolution Sports will step in to manage the communication needs of Sky Blue FC as well as assist in public relations and marketing efforts for the organization.
“This announcement is one that brings with it a tremendous amount of excitement, and we could not be anymore enthused about establishing this partnership,” Resolution Sports President John Archibald commented. “The story of Sky Blue FC overcoming so many obstacles to emerge as the inaugural champions of Women’s Professional Soccer this past August is one of true inspiration and focus, and our company looks forward to displaying that same determination in developing the communication strategy for this great organization.”
Facing the hardest road to the WPS crown, Sky Blue FC fought their way into the league playoffs this summer as the fourth seed for the postseason. The WPS playoff system gave a bye to the title game for the regular season champion Los Angeles Sol, and the second ranked St. Louis Athletica awaited the winner of the first round match between Sky Blue FC and the third seed Washington Freedom. In order to win the inaugural league title, Sky Blue FC would have to win three games on the road in 10 days against three clubs that they had not defeated during the regular season. With all the odds stacked against them, Sky Blue FC allowed only a single goal in those three matches combined to emerge as the WPS champions after defeating the Sol in the title game, 1-0, at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The story grew even further after the season when coach and team captain Christie Rampone revealed that she led the team on that run all while being in the early stages of pregnancy. At the conclusion of the season, Rampone was named the 2009 Hint Water Sportswoman of the Year.
“While we may have been winners of the inaugural WPS championship, we are determined to improve our organization both on and off the field,” Sky Blue FC General Manager Gerry Marrone said. “We feel that Resolution Sports has a lot to offer Sky Blue FC, and we are very excited to form this partnership.”
Resolution Sports was founded last November by John Archibald after the concept of establishing a communication-based sports company came into his head on a train ride home from working one evening in latter 2008. The foundation of Resolution Sports was created that very night, and Resolution Sports LLC was fully licensed and operational within a matter of three weeks. The company is now building an arsenal of goal-oriented partners in the sports industry such as Sky Blue FC, and the company works directly with those partners in a collective pursuit of achieving personal and organizational goals. In less than a year, Resolution Sports has developed a national presence that originates in the Northeast and stretches as far west as California all the way to the southern tip of Florida.
