Planet90 Soccer will walk with Miguel's Strikers
Charity Walk to Be Conducted on October 18th in Franklin Lakes, N.J.
Bloomfield, N.J. (Tuesday, October 6, 2009) – When young Miguel Vidal attended the Planet90 Soccer Camp at MaryHelp of Christians Academy this past summer, Coach Oral Bullen saw a very dedicated player that hustled every second he was on the soccer field. A few days into the camp, it was a conversation with Miguel’s mother that made Bullen realize that the young man was even more determined and focused than his quick feet and good attitude on the field showed.
“Miguel’s sister, Maria, is a player of mine on the MaryHelp Girls Varsity Team, and they both attended the Planet90 Soccer Camp,” Bullen said. “After training one day, I had a conversation with their mother, and that is when she told me about the Walk to Cure Diabetes.”
Miguel is diabetic, meaning that he sometimes has problems absorbing glucose and turning it into energy. From the outside looking in, no one would ever know if they saw him on the soccer field.
“At the camp, I was aware Miguel was diabetic, but Miguel's love for soccer has helped him surpass his diabetic condition,” Bullen stated. “Miguel would not stop running. I told his mom that he loves to play the game of soccer, and you have to do everything in your power to get Miguel off the soccer field.”
It was during that exchange that Miguel’s mother informed Bullen about the Walk to Cure Diabetes, which will take place in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, on Sunday, October 18th. Not only was the cause one that Bullen wanted to support for young Miguel, but it was also one that hit home with him personally.
“Diabetes is something that runs in my family,” Bullen confessed. “I have lost a loved one to diabetes already, and I would like to do everything in my power to make sure this does not happen again. I personally will be attending the Walk to Cure Diabetes, and I encourage everyone to come out and support this great cause.”
Miguel has a group that is being formed for the walk called Miguel’s Strikers, and interested parties can register today for the walk by logging onto the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation website at www.jdrf.org.
“Come out and join Planet90 Soccer with Miguel's Strikers!” Bullen exclaimed. “It will be greatly appreciated by not only Miguel, but diabetic patients everywhere. Thank you!”
