WPS and Second Largest State Soccer Association in the Country Join Forces
Somerset, N.J. (Friday, December 11, 2009) – Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) Champions Sky Blue FC formally announced a partnership with the New Jersey Youth Soccer Association (NJYSA) today, directly uniting the youth soccer community to the team. The initiative marks the first time that Sky Blue FC has formalized a relationship with NJYSA, which is the second largest state soccer association in the nation.
“This is a crucial and meaningful partnership for both Sky Blue FC and NJYSA,” Sky Blue FC General Manager Gerry Marrone stated of the union. “It is players from the ranks of such programs as the Olympic Development Program (ODP) who become the professionals of tomorrow. In addition, this partnership will greatly assist the team in our continual efforts to reach all youth players and their families in our goal to make them fans.”
As part of the agreement, Sky Blue FC will provide an exclusive 2010 season ticket to each of the approximately 130 players who are selected to a New Jersey ODP girl’s state team. Sky Blue FC will also provide inspirational and informative education to NJYSA players in the form of clinics and guest appearances by the professional coaching staff and the players. The two groups will also unite in cross-promotional marketing efforts, with NJYSA acting as an additional sounding board for the team. Sky Blue FC will additionally assist in NJYSA licensing classes, ODP tryouts and training sessions, as well as various online initiatives.
“Both of our groups are seeking ways to enhance the quality of the overall soccer experience for those who participate in the game,” NJYSA Director of Coaching Rick Meana commented. “As such, a strong partnership between a youth body and professional soccer organization makes sense. Sky Blue FC will offer the New Jersey Youth Soccer programs and membership many opportunities that would otherwise not be available. Likewise, our membership will be able to assist in the development of a fan base that is crucial to the continued success of our sport.”
Sky Blue FC, whose team includes four New Jersey natives who also play on the U.S. National Team, formally kicks off this partnership by participating in the upcoming 2010 NJYSA Awards Banquet and Workshop & Vendor Exposition. At the awards banquet on Friday, January 8th, Sky Blue FC and U.S. Women’s National Team player Yael Averbuch is scheduled as a guest speaker, and the WPS Championship Trophy will be available for photo opportunities with NJYSA guests.
