Sky Blue FC Hosting Final Open Tryouts

Tryouts Slated for January 5-6th at Robbinsville Fieldhouse

Somerset, N.J. (Monday, December 21, 2009) – With the opening of preseason camp right around the corner, 2009 Women’s Professional Soccer Champions Sky Blue FC will be hosting its final open tryouts on January 5-6th. Registration is now open for the tryouts, which will be hosted at Robbinsville Field House at 153 Manor Way in Robbinsville, New Jersey.

“We are looking for athletic and technical players who can utilize technique during the flow of play while also taking care of the ball,” Sky Blue FC head coach Pauliina Miettinen stated. “These tryouts look to be very competitive since the best from our first tryouts are invited back, and college players who plan to enter the WPS Draft will also participate in this tryout. We are anxious to see how everyone stacks up against one another, and I strongly encourage anyone who feels she can play at the professional level to attend these tryouts.”

Registration for the open tryouts is $75 and must be paid through the Sky Blue FC online registration that is listed below. Hotel and additional information is also available on the online registration page. Both sessions of the open tryouts will run from 1-5:30 pm, and the combines will include both tactical and technical training that will be led by the Sky Blue FC coaching staff. Players must arrive game-ready (cleats, no screw-ins) and prepared to participate on both days of the tryouts. The deadline to register is Sunday, January 3rd.

“We were very impressed with the quality of the first open tryouts in December, and we are even more excited in anticipation of the second tryouts,” Sky Blue FC General Manager Gerry Marrone commented. “In addition to the level of talent of those who aspire to play for our team and our league, we can now have the addition of those eligible college players who are on their break from school. We all know you always get your best chance to impress coaches when they see you play. No video can express what your true talents can show live.”

The Sky Blue FC open tryouts are intended for college seniors or players who have completed their college eligibility, and all participants must be at least 18 years old.

“There may be only a few spots remaining, but the competition for them is great,” Marrone continued. “That's why we are encouraging anyone who is qualified to come out in January and join these tryouts.”

• In order to be eligible to play in WPS in 2010, all prospective players must register with the league and make themselves eligible for the 2010 WPS Draft by January 12th, 2010.
