KiXX Stumble in Monterrey

Anthony Maher had seven points on a hat trick and an assist.

La RaZa Defeats Philadelphia, 23-13

Philadelphia (Sunday, January 3, 2010) – The play of the Philadelphia KiXX (1-5) was strong tonight in the first half of a road pairing with La RaZa de Monterrey (3-4), but a 14-0 run by the host side in the third frame would be too much for the visitors to overcome. Despite a hat trick on the night by KiXX forward Anthony Maher, LaRaZa went on to take an eventual 23-13 victory in this match.

After a much needed break over the holidays, Philadelphia looked as if the time off was just what the doctor ordered in the first 15 minutes of play this evening. Maher got the scoring started with a two-pointer at 3:38 of the opening frame, and an ensuing Angel Rivillo to Adauto Neto goal at 4:55 made it 4-0 in favor of the KiXX as the first quarter came to a close.

As the second stanza began, Monterrey was able to quickly trigger some fire into its offense. An early Ángel Hernández three-pointer first brought La RaZa within a point, and Héctor Vallejo then gave Monterrey its first lead just a few minutes later, 5-4. Philadelphia continued to battle, although, and a beautiful triple off the foot of 2008-09 Defender of the Year Pat Morris at 11:25 would give the KiXX a 7-5 advantage as the two teams headed into the locker rooms at halftime. Forward David Castellanos scored the assist on the Morris knock.

The second half would be a tough one for Philadelphia. La RaZa started the third frame on a 14-0 run before KiXX midfielder Angel Rivillo was able to score a deuce for his club at 11:13, and a 19-9 count would stand as the game headed into its final 15 minutes of play. Maher then notched two goals in the fourth stanza to give himself a hat trick on the evening, but the final 23-13 tally would favor La RaZa.

The match tonight was the final stop in a six-game road trip to start the season for the KiXX, and Philadelphia will make its historic first home game at the Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University next Saturday, January 9th, when they will be hosting the Rockford Rampage at 7:00 p.m. Season and group ticket packages for the KiXX are available now by calling 1-888-888-KiXX, and all fans are strongly encouraged to purchase seats in advance for this huge moment in team history.
