Veteran Defender Led Philadelphia Offense with 12 Points in Two Wins

Philadelphia (Monday, January 11, 2010) – The Philadelphia KiXX picked up a pair of big wins this past weekend in a two-game sweep of the Rockford Rampage, and veteran defender Pat Morris played a critical role in both of the victories. After notching 12 points in the home-and-home series with Rockford, the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Morris has been named its Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 10th.

“Being the veteran and captain that he is, Pat stepped up and played really big for us this past weekend,” head coach Don D’Ambra stated. “He led by example on the field, and that is what we must do in order to win big games. It’s also great to see that type of effort be acknowledged by the league.”

Morris anchored the KiXX defense while also leading the offense in points over the two-game set with the Rampage. The 11-year veteran made his return to the City of Brotherly Love a historic one on Saturday in the team’s home opener at the Liacouras Center, registering eight points on a hat trick and two assists in a 23-20 victory, also scoring the 175th goal of his decorated career. The next night, he led the KiXX attack with four points on a pair of goals in a 10-9 win. For the weekend, he recorded 12 points on five goals and two assists while also tallying a team-high four blocks. Morris currently leads the MISL with 14 blocks and his 21 points place him second among all defenders in the league.

Following the big weekend for Philadelphia, the team now finds itself only a ½ game behind LaRaZa de Monterrey (4-5) and Rockford for third place in the standings, which will eventually be the final position for the MISL playoffs. Picking up two victories this weekend also has Philadelphia just two games out of first place in the standings. The top spot is currently being resided by the Milwaukee Wave (5-3) and Baltimore Blast (5-3).

The next game action for the KiXX is a home match at the Liacouras Center on Saturday, January 23rd, when the team hosts Rockford. Tickets for that contest are available now by calling 1-888-888-KiXX or logging onto
