Danish Striker Registered Seven Goals and Three Assists over Six Matches for Sky Blue FC in 2014

Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced today that it has signed Danish striker Nadia Nadim for the 2015 season. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Signing Nadia was our top objective coming out of last season,” Sky Blue FC technical director and head coach Jim Gabarra stated. “We had some great momentum when she arrived last year, and we want to continue that momentum into this season. This is huge for both Sky Blue FC and the league itself in signing a player of Nadia’s caliber, and we are very much looking forward to having her for the entire season.”

Nadim, 27, had an immediate impact when she arrived to New Jersey in 2014.On loan from Fortuna Hjørring, she tallied seven goals and three assists in just six matches, with the goal total being equal to most on the team for the season.

“Nadia is a special player, and she had a positive impact on our team in 2014, both on and off the field,” Sky Blue FC President & General Manager Tony Novo remarked. “We are very excited to now have Nadia back in New Jersey for the upcoming season, and we look forward to another successful year from her.”

Born in Afghanistan, Nadim arrived in Denmark at the age of 12-years-old with her mother and sisters. Once she turned 18, Nadim was granted Danish citizenship and made her debut for the Danish National Team the following year. She began her club career in 2005 for B52 Aalborg and then played for Team Viborg before spending seven seasons with IK Skovbakken. Nadim joined Fortuna Hjørring in 2012 and has spent the past three seasons playing for the Danish side, with the exception of her time with Sky Blue FC on loan in 2014.

The well-rounded Nadim also speaks five different languages, and she is currently studying to become a doctor at Aarhus University in Denmark. The Danish National Team did not qualify for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada this summer, so Nadim will be with Sky Blue for the entirety of the upcoming NWSL season.

Sky Blue FC season tickets are available now (10 home matches), with packages starting as low as $120. Make sure you catch all of the world class NWSL action this season at Yurcak Field by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).
