The Pali Blues are unbeaten since joining the W-League over two years ago.
Midfielders Cathrine Paaske-Sørensen, Julie Rydahl Bukh Coming to California
Pacific Palisades, Calif. (Thursday, March 18, 2010) – The Pali Blues Soccer Club added some international flare to its roster today, announcing the addition of Danish National Team midfielders Cathrine Paaske-Sørensen and Julie Rydahl Bukh. The duo, who recently won a championship with Sydney FC in the Australian W-League, will join the Blues in early June, pending international clearance and league approval.
"Adding this duo is a big step in defending our titles. Both have a world experience,” Blues head coach Charlie Naimo said of the signings. “Cathrine is known as one of the top attacking midfield players in Europe, while Julie is an extremely versatile left-sided player."
Both of these midfielders played last fall for Linköping in Damallsveksen, which is the highest division of women’s soccer in Sweden. They are currently playing in Denmark with Fortuna Hjørring in the Danish Premier League and are on schedule to join the Blues at the conclusion of that season.
Paaske-Sørensen, who began her professional career in 1996 with B 1921 in Denmark, received her first cap with the Danish National Team in 2000. She was twice named the Danish Women’s Player of the Year, and she was on the shortlist for the 2006 FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year Award. Still a mainstay with her native national team, Paaske-Sørensen capped with the Danish side for the 100th time this past August.
Rydahl Bukh began her professional career in 1999 with Viborg FF of the Danish Premier League but truly rose to stardom when she signed with Brøndby IF in 2001. She remained with the club for eight years and won six straight Danish championships. On the international scene, she made her first appearance with the Danish National Team in 2001 and has since capped 50 times for her country.
The Pali Blues begin the quest for a third consecutive W-League crown on Saturday, June 5th, when the team hosts the Santa Clarita Blue Heat at the Stadium by the Sea. Tickets for that match and the 2010 season are available now by visiting www.BluesSoccerClub.com.
