PBL to Hold League All-Star Game on May 2nd in Nova Scotia
Halifax, NS (Wednesday, March 24, 2010) – The Premier Basketball League announced the two teams for its 2010 All-Star Game, which is slated to take place on Sunday, May 2nd, at the MetroCentre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The PBL is currently in its third year of operation, but these festivities will mark the first All-Star Weekend for the league since its inception.
"The city of Halifax, the Rainmen organization and our fans are extremely excited to have been chosen to host the first PBL All-Star Weekend," said Andre Levingston, owner of the host Halifax Rainmen. "Our organization, along with Rogers (Wireless), our fantastic partners and the people of Halifax will make this an All-Star Game to remember."
18 players from the nine-team league have been selected to showcase their talents in this inaugural All-Star contest.
“These players are among the top stars in the Premier Basketball League," stated Dr. Sev Hrywnak, Chairman of the Board of the PBL. "This is a fantastic opportunity for them to show their skills on a national stage, and to show the world what the PBL has to offer - both in the quality level of our stars, and of the talent you can see at any PBL game any night."
The coaches for the two sides will be Halifax frontman Les Barry with the East, with Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry head coach Micheal Ray Richardson and Rochester Razorsharks headman Rod Baker on the West bench.
The PBL All-Star Weekend will kick off on Saturday, May 1st, with community appearances during the day, and the MetroCentre will host a three-point shootout and slam dunk contest later that evening. A Legends Game and skills competition are also planned for the opening night of the weekend. Following the headlining All-Star Game on Sunday, a special closing ceremony and player autograph session are planned.
