Sky Blue FC Acquires 2nd Overall Pick in 2016 NWSL Draft via Trade with Portland

Ahead of Friday’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft, Sky Blue FC has officially announced a trade with Portland Thorns FC.

Per the trade, Sky Blue FC has acquired the number two overall pick from Portland in Friday’s NWSL College Draft, as well as a natural first-round and conditional fourth-round selection from them in the 2017 NWSL College Draft. In exchange, Portland has acquired the rights to forward Nadia Nadim, the number three pick in Friday’s draft and a natural second round pick in the 2017 NWSL College Draft from Sky Blue FC.

“We would like to thank Nadia for her contributions to our club over the past two seasons,” said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. “We wish her all the best as she heads to Portland.”

The 2016 NWSL College Draft will take place on Friday at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention inside the Baltimore Convention Center, beginning at 10:00 AM ET.

  • Sky Blue FC receives 2016 #2 pick, 2017 natural first round pick, 2017 conditional natural fourth round pick.
  • Portland Thorns FC receives rights to Nadia Nadim, 2016 #3 pick, 2017 natural second round pick.
