Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Brittany Cameron made official today that she will remain with Japanese club Vegalta Sendai during the upcoming National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season.

“This year will be new for us all. I have been presented with an opportunity and experience I simply could not pass up, and I have decided to continue my playing career in Japan for the whole year. Sky Blue FC has been a part of my heart and soul for the last three years of my life. The organization, coaching staff and players have been nothing short of amazing, and I will forever be grateful to Sky Blue FC for the opportunity. To my teammates and friends, the bond we share is something I take with me everywhere I go, and I will always be your biggest supporter on and off the field. I know this season is going to be nothing short of great, and I am so excited for what is in store. To the club and coaching staff, thank you for your continued support, and I wish you all nothing but the best in the 2016 season!”

Cameron, 29, will remain in Japan after spending her second consecutive NWSL offseason with Vegalta Sendai, and she is coming off her best year as a professional in 2015. She was voted Sky Blue FC Most Valuable Player after being the only NWSL goalkeeper to appear in all 20 matches of the 2015 regular season, playing a league-high 1792 of a possible 1800 minutes. The California native led the NWSL with 87 saves, which was 33 more than any other goalkeeper in the league. The number gave her an average of 4.35 saves per game, also an NWSL best. Additionally, Cameron registered four shutouts and gave up one or less goal in 13 matches over the course of the 2015 campaign.

“We have been very fortunate as a club to have such a talented goalkeeper as Brittany Cameron with us over the last three years,” said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. “Brit brought a number of qualities to the club, both on and off the field. She has been offered a tremendous opportunity in Japan, and we all wish her the best over there this year. We know she will be our biggest fan all year long.”

The 2015 NWSL season was Cameron’s third with Sky Blue FC, making 45 starts over that time period.
