Sky Blue FC Captain Among Exclusive 12-Person Class of Inductees
Sky Blue FC captain Christie Rampone received another major accolade this past Thursday evening, as the Point Pleasant native was among an exclusive 12-member class which was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame at the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park.
“To be recognized by your home state is an amazing honor,” Rampone humbly remarked. “Not only did I grow up here, but New Jersey is where I laid down my foundation. This was a really special experience for me and one that I will never forget.”
Rampone was among a 12-person class that included college basketball analyst Dick Vitale, comedian Jon Stewart, former New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, 19th century novelist James Fennimore Cooper, pop artists Kool and the Gang, entrepreneur Lewis Katz, FOX Studio founder William Fox, Home Depot co-founder Bernard Marcus, Medal of Honor recipient Jack H. Jacobs, late U.S. Senator Frank R. Lautenberg and motivational speaker Carla Harris.
“Christie is a world class athlete and person, and this is a well-deserved recognition for her,” said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. “We feel privileged to have her as part of our club, and she is instrumental in everything that we do. On behalf of everyone here at Sky Blue FC, we want to congratulate Christie for receiving this great honor.”
As a player, Rampone has won two FIFA Women’s World Cups and three U.S. Olympic Gold Medals, while also leading Sky Blue FC to the 2009 Women’s Professional Soccer championship. The former three-sport athlete at Monmouth University served as captain of the U.S. Women’s National Team for seven consecutive years and is one of only two players in international soccer history (men or women) who has more than 300 caps for her country.
“You truly cannot put into words what Christie Rampone has meant to the State of New Jersey, Sky Blue FC, this country and the game of soccer in general,” said Tony Novo, Sky Blue FC President & General Manager. “On the field, she serves as another coach and has not lost a step as a player. Off the pitch, she has been nothing but a positive influence to everyone with whom she has ever interacted. We are very grateful to have her with our organization and are very pleased to see that New Jersey also recognizes how lucky we are to call her one of our own.”
