Kickoff Slated for 8:30PM ET at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston
Sky Blue FC (1-1-0, 3 points) will return to the field on Friday night for its second road match of the 2016 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), playing the host Houston Dash (1-1-0, 3 points) at BBVA Compass Stadium. Kickoff for the contest is set for 8:30 PM ET, and fans can watch all of the action live in HD via YouTube.
“We are very excited to get back on the field in Houston,” said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to show our character and ability to bounce back from a disappointing performance last weekend. We have done our homework, and we have a game plan. Now, we look forward to putting the players on the field and showing what we can do.”
Sky Blue FC enters the Friday night fixture after suffering its first defeat of the season last Sunday night, falling to the unbeaten Washington Spirit at Yurcak Field, 2-1. In that pairing, Washington raced out to a two-goal advantage behind tallies from Ali Krieger and Diana Matheson before a Taylor Lytle to Maya Hayes connection brought the New Jersey side within a one-notch differential. Sky Blue FC created some great chances down the stretch to nearly level the encounter but was unable to find an equalizer before the final whistle was blown.
After handling the Chicago Red Stars at home, 3-1, in its 2016 season opener, the Dash were on the wrong side of that same score line last weekend when they played the expansion Orlando Pride in front of a record NWSL crowd at Camping World Stadium. The four goals by Houston over their first pair of games are tied for most in the league. The four tallies against are also equal for the highest total in the NWSL.
Friday night marks the first time that these two clubs have played in 2016. In their last meeting, Sky Blue FC handed the Dash a 2-0 defeat at BBVA Compass Stadium in August of 2015, also on a Friday night.
After playing in Houston, Sky Blue FC will return to Yurcak Field on Saturday, May 7th, to host the Western New York Flash. Tickets for that match are available now, and all fans who eat at Quaker Steak & Lube in Edison before the game will receive free parking for the match.
