Casey Made Two Starts for Sky Blue FC Earlier this Season After Being Selected in NWSL College Draft
Ahead of a Sunday night road fixture with the Chicago Red Stars (4-1-1, 13 points), Sky Blue FC (2-3-1, 7 points) has officially signed goalkeeper Caroline Casey to its National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) roster.
“We are very happy for Caroline,” said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. “She has worked tremendously hard since she arrived here in New Jersey, and she has shown incredible signs of improvement. It is great to see her rewarded for all of her hard work, and we look forward to seeing what the future brings in terms of her development.”
Entering the preseason as a Replacement Goalkeeper, Casey made a pair of starts for Sky Blue FC earlier this year, compiling a 1-1 record and registering a road win over Seattle Reign FC in her professional debut.
Casey, 22, was made the no. 29 overall selection in the 2016 NWSL College Draft by Sky Blue FC after coming off an All-America First Team senior season at the College of William and Mary, recording a 0.88 goals-against-average, 86 saves and 11 shutouts while claiming 2015 CAA Defensive Player of the Year accolades. The Virginia native started every game of her college career and finished with 301 saves (second all-time), 29 saves (third all-time) and 48 wins at William and Mary.
Sky Blue FC is set for a 7:00 p.m. ET kickoff with the Chicago Red Stars on Sunday night, and fans can watch all of the action live via YouTube. The team will then return home to Yurcak Field on Saturday, June 11th, to host FC Kansas City at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for that match are available now.
