STX Equipment, Jersey Donations for Strawberry Mansion High School Girl’s Lacrosse Team

The United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX) and Play It Forward Foundation (PIFS) are joining forces with the Eyekonz Lacrosse League on a huge community initiative in Philadelphia this weekend. During a UWLX match between the Philadelphia Force (0-2) and Baltimore Ride (0-2) on Saturday, an equipment and jersey donation will be made to the girl’s lacrosse team at Strawberry Mansion High School.

STX Women’s Lacrosse is a key contributor with the equipment donation, while the jerseys are being provided by Longstreth Sporting Goods and Ultimate Lacrosse.

A ceremony will take place prior to the start of the Force vs. Ride game, which will be played at Sweeney Field on the campus of St. Joseph’s University. Following the game, the Strawberry Mansion girl’s lacrosse team will then take part in a short exhibition match on the field. The UWLX adopted the Strawberry Mansion squad when league founders Digit Murphy and Aronda Kirby heard that a lacrosse program was established at the school by head coach Jasmine Smith to provide its young girls with an alternative to the negative influences that affect so many from their community.

The Play It Forward Foundation (PIFS) was created by Murphy and Kirby, and its mission is to advance gender equity in sports at all levels. PIFS embraces a creative model of empowering female athletes to play forward their talents and sport experiences in the community to drive awareness and attendance at all women’s sport events.

The opening draw for the Philadelphia Force vs. Baltimore Ride game will take place at noon at Sweeney Field, and a special halftime performance will be made by Philadelphia hip hop artist Summer Valentine.

In additional UWLX action, the Long Island Sound (2-0) will take on the Boston Storm (2-0) at the Decou Sports Complex in Cherry Hill, N.J., as part of the National Draw Tournament. That match also gets underway at noon.

Season passes for the 2016 UWLX season are available now online and can be purchased for the low price of just $25! Season passes are good for the complete schedule of games that the UWLX will play in 2016.
