Baltimore Edges Storm in Game Loaded with Goal-Scoring Streaks, 15-14

The United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX) returned to action on Friday evening  at the Ulrich Sports Complex on the campus of Lehigh University, with the Baltimore Ride (2-2) and Boston Storm (2-2) playing to a thrilling 15-14 result. Leading the way for the winning Baltimore side was a five-point effort from Erica Bodt (two goals, three assists), while Boston was paced by six points from Kayla Treanor (two-pointer, two assists).

Boston raced out to a 3-0 advantage behind goals from Treanor, Danielle Spencer and Kailah Kempney, only to see Taylor Cummings kickstart a five-tally run for the Ride. The high-scorer over that series was Bodt, who put away a two-pointer en route to a 5-3 edge.

The Storm then rallied for two straight notches, leveling the count at 5-5, but Baltimore was able to finish off two late goals to take a two-tally lead into the intermission.

The Ride picked up right where they left off at the start of the second half, putting away six consecutive scores to bring the in-game run to eight straight notches. Baltimore truly spread the offensive wealth during that hot streak, with only Aly Carey registering more than one goal.

With the scoreboard reading 13-5 in favor of the Ride, a resilient Boston side was able to run off six consecutive points of their own to climb within a pair, 13-11. The highlight of that sequence was a two-pointer off the stick of Erin Silfer. Baltimore responded with another couple of finishes to extend their lead back to four points, but the Storm had one more run in them.

With less than a minute remaining, Boston was facing a seemingly insurmountable 15-11 deficit, but Treanor then recorded an unassisted tally with 52 seconds left on the clock to hang a 15-12 line. She then pressed forward again with the ball after the following draw and raced towards the cage before firing off a two-pointer that found the back of the net. With merely 15 seconds remaining on the clock, the Storm had tightened the gap to 15-14. However, the Ride then buckled down to finally close the curtain on the dramatic finish, securing their second straight victory.

Both of these teams will return to action again tomorrow at the Ulrich Sports Complex. First up, the Philadelphia Force will host the Boston Storm at 6:00 p.m., followed up by the Long Island Sound and Baltimore Ride taking the field at 8:00 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets to the doubleheader for the low price of $15.
