U.S. Women’s National Team Meets Costa Rica in Final Olympic Send-Off Match on Friday Night
Sky Blue FC (5-4-4, 19 points) of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) will see two of its players square off on Friday night in an international friendly, as Kelley O’Hara and the U.S. Women’s National Team host Raquel Rodriguez and the Costa Rica Women’s National Team at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas. Kickoff for the match is slated for 9 p.m. ET, with the game airing live on ESPN.
The contest marks the final Olympic send-off match for the U.S. WNT, which is 13-0-1 in 2016 with 12 shutouts on the year.
The U.S. Olympic Team will play its opening match on Aug. 3rd, taking on New Zealand in the first game of Group Play. It will then take on France on Aug. 6th before finishing up Group Play against Colombia on Aug. 9th.
The Costa Rica Women’s National Team played in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup last year in Canada, with Rodriguez scoring the first FIFA Women’s World Cup goal in her nation’s history. However, the team did not qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, which sets up Rodriguez to return to Sky Blue FC next week.
Sky Blue FC returns home to Yurcak Field on Saturday night, hosting the Washington Spirit at 7:00 p.m., and tickets for that match are available now. Additionally, all fans who eat at Quaker Steak & Lube in Edison before the game will receive free parking for the match.
