Judah Set to Return to Ring in July at Prudential Center
Totowa, N.J. (Wednesday, May 26, 2010) – Former world champion Zab Judah (38-6, 26 KOs) is set to make a return to the ring this July at Newark’s Prudential Center, and he will do it with the promotional group which originally brought him onto the professional boxing scene in 1996. Main Events and Super Judah Promotions announced this week that the two groups have joined forces to once again promote the Brooklyn native.
"We at Main Events are thrilled to welcome Zab back home," Main Events CEO Kathy Duva stated. "We were fortunate to have been involved with Zab throughout much of his early boxing career, so we know first-hand what a compelling personality and exciting fighter Zab is. Zab brings with him the kind of fan base necessary to fill a big arena, and we look forward to packing Prudential Center when he makes his debut there in July."
Judah does not yet know who he will be fighting in July, but many rumors are swirling around a potential bout with Jose Armando Santa Cruz (28-4, 17 KOs). The fight could possibly air on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights if an agreement is reached.
"I like to finish how I started, so we teamed up with Main Events,” Judah said. “We crossed the water to team up with Prudential Center, and I'm back."
Judah is a former IBF and WBO Junior Welterweight Champion, and he is also a former undisputed champion in the welterweight division. The 32-year-old fighter has won four of his last five bouts, with the only loss being a technical decision defeat to Joshua Clottey when accidental head butts caused the fight to go to the cards in the ninth round. While this upcoming bout will be the first for Judah at Prudential Center, Main Events has become a mainstay at the state-of-the-art arena. Another of their boxers, heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek, has picked up four wins in Newark, and the Polish puncher has developed a massive following there.
“Super Judah Promotions is very excited to team up with such a respected and experienced promoter in Main Events and a fantastic facility and crew at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey,” VP Bill Halkias remarked. “Zab ‘Super’ Judah is entering 2010 with more focus, heart and dedication than ever before. He will once again dominate the junior welterweight division.”
Before signing back on with Main Events, Judah and his company cut ties with former promoter Don King.
