New Jersey Club Welcomes Portland to Yurcak Field on Sunday Night

Sky Blue FC (7-7-5, 26 points) returns to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) action on Sunday night, hosting Portland Thorns FC (11-3-5, 38 points) at Yurcak Field for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. The match marks the final game on the 2016 docket for Sky Blue FC, which has its sights set on finishing the season with a three-match unbeaten streak.

“We are very excited to close out the season in front of our hometown fans in New Jersey,” said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. “We want to make sure that we put on a very entertaining and open-attacking game for them, which would also enable us to finish off what has been a very good season on a high note.”

Sunday night marks the second meeting of the year between these two clubs, with the Thorns winning the first encounter this past June in Portland, 2-1. In that match, Sky Blue FC got out to a 1-0 lead via a first-half Taylor Lytle to Tasha Kai connection in the 29th minute. However, Portland was able to level the contest before the intermission with a Dagny Brynjarsdottir goal before scoring the game-winner on a 61st minute penalty kick that was converted by Nadia Nadim.

Sky Blue FC has scored in 10 consecutive games, a current NWSL high, with forward Sam Kerr having registered a goal in four straight matches. The Australia international has now recorded a team-leading five goals on the season, despite the fact that she has only played in eight total games (five starts) during her 2016 campaign.

Sunday will also be Aetna Health & Wellness Night, as Aetna will have a booth located in Vendor Village where fans will have the opportunity to spin a Wellness Wheel to win free prizes. Additionally, there will be many initiatives surrounding the evening to educate fans on health awareness and to promote healthier lifestyles.

Tickets for Sunday’s match are available now, and all fans who eat at Quaker Steak & Lube in Edison before the game will receive free parking for the match.
