Midfielder Joins Reigning W-League Champions
Amanda Lisberger cuurently plays for the Texas Longhorns
Pacific Palisades, Calif. (Wednesday, March 11, 2009) – The Pali Blues Soccer Club announced today that Brentwood School graduate and current Texas Longhorn Amanda Lisberger will play for the team in their sophomore campaign in the USL W-League. With the May 9th season opener quickly approaching, the reigning league champions continue to build their opening day roster as they seek to successfully defend their title in 2009.
"It is great to be able to add more local talent to the roster,” Blues head coach Charlie Naimo commented. “Amanda is a very accomplished club soccer player that I have come up against a few times as a coach while with PDA NJ, and it is no surprise to me that she is off to a great start in college at U of Texas. I hope she will inspire other local players to want to wear a Pali Blues uniform one day."
Lisberger, who was invited to join the Korean Republic National Team Pool for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, wrapped up her freshman season at Texas this past fall, knocking in two goals and adding an assist in 20 appearances. Before suiting up for the Longhorns, she had an extensively successful high school and club career. She was a three-sport athlete at Brentwood School, where she holds the school and conference record with 201 points on 86 goals and 29 assists. On three occasions, she was named to the All-CIF First Team and led her team to three conference championships. The four-time Olympic League First Teamer and three-time Olympic League MVP was a California Gatorade Player of the Year finalist in 2007. One of the greatest highlights of her high school career was a game-winning header in the 2007 California State Championships on Fox Soccer Channel.
In addition to a stellar career at Brentwood School, Lisberger played four years with the Eagles Soccer Club in Southern California. She helped Eagles SC to a pair of state crowns in 2007 and 2008, while also reaching the state finals the previous two years. Eagles SC won the West Coast Premier League Championship and League Cup Championship in 2006, and they won a USYS National Championship, State Championship and Far West Regional Championship in 2007. Lisberger also guided her club to three Surf Cup Championships.
The USL W-League played its inaugural season in 1995, and it is recognized as the premiere development league for female players in North America. The Pali Blues Soccer Club was the winner of the 2008 W-League championship in just its first season of play, and the team will open their second season against the Los Angeles Legends at the Stadium by the Sea on Saturday, May 9th, at 6:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased today by calling (310) 264-4649.
