Hornbuckle Fights Brad Blackburn in Welterweight Action

Chicago (Thursday, August 19, 2010) – Welterweight Dan Hornbuckle (21-3) will make his return to the Bellator cage tonight at the Chicago Theatre, taking on Brad Blackburn (17-11) at Bellator 25. The fight marks the first bout for Hornbuckle since suffering a rare defeat to former Olympic wrestler Ben Askren (6-0) in the finals of season two’s welterweight tournament.

Hornbuckle, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist, tipped the scales at 170.5 pounds yesterday at the official weigh-in, while Blackburn posted a weight of 169 pounds. The aforementioned loss to Askren was just the second defeat for Hornbuckle in the past four years and last 20 fights. The proud Native American and Eastern Band Cherokee Tribe member will look to get back on the winning track against Blackburn, who formerly fought in the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) and International Fight League (IFL). The Los Angeles native is looking to end a two-bout losing streak when he steps into the Bellator cage with Hornbuckle.

Also on tap for tonight’s main card, which will be broadcasted live on FOX Sports Net, is a heavyweight showdown between Scott Barrett (10-1) and the undefeated Damian Grabowski (12-0), as part of the Bellator Heavyweight Tournament. Before signing with Bellator, Grabowski was highly regarded as one of the best free agent Mixed Martial Artists available, and the Polish Pitbull has yet to have a fight go to the judges’ score cards. Barrett is currently riding a four-bout winning streak since suffering the only loss of his professional career to Chad Corvin at XFC 7.

The final two fights that are scheduled to hit the air tonight include a pair of opening round bouts in Bellator Tournament competition, one in the heavyweight division and a second in the women’s group. Cole Conrad (4-1) will take on Rogent Lloret (9-1) in a showdown between two big men, while unbeaten Jessica Pene (7-0) looks to advance with a win over Zoila Frausto (7-1).

Tonight’s action will go live at 8:00 p.m. EST. For a full list of the entire Bellator 25 card, click here.
