Judah Fights Michael Clark at Prudential Center
Newark, N.J. (Wednesday, August 25, 2010) – Coming off an impressive TKO victory of Jose Armando Santa Cruz in July on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights, Zab “Super” Judah (39-6, 27 KOs) will return to the scene of that fight on Saturday, October 2nd, facing Michael Clark (40-5-1, 18 KOs) at Prudential Center. The bout will be the second for Judah since reuniting in May with Main Events, which is the promotional group that brought him into professional boxing in 1996.
"I have all the respect in the world for Michael Clark because he is willing to come to the Prudential Center to face me," Judah said of his opponent. "The top junior welterweights want no part of Zab Judah. We had a great night in Newark this summer and expect to give the fans an even greater night in October. Zab Judah is all the way back!"
Main Events President Kathy Duva says that finding work for Judah has not been easy since his convincing win over Santa Cruz.
"We contacted representatives of just about everyone among the top 20 junior welterweights in the U.S. and abroad and offered them a fight with Zab. They all turned us down," Duva stated. “Michael Clark, on the other hand, called up and asked for the fight. You've got to admire and reward that kind of passion and confidence. Michael Clark is certain that he can beat Zab Judah, and he wants to come to Newark and prove it."
Judah is a former IBF and WBO Junior Welterweight Champion, and he is also a former undisputed champion in the welterweight division. The 32-year-old boxer has won five of his last six bouts, with the only loss being a technical decision defeat to Joshua Clottey in 2008 when accidental head butts caused the fight to go to the cards in the ninth round. His own group, Super Judah Promotions, will serve as co-promoters for the upcoming bout with Clark, who is a former contestant on the Contender.
"On October 2nd at Prudential Center, Clark will be Zab's second victim on the way to the top of the junior welterweight division," said Bill Halkias, who is the VP of Super Judah Promotions. "Zab's TKO victory against Santa Cruz proves he hasn't lost a step. He has developed into a stronger, faster and smarter fighter. Michael Clark will learn first-hand what it's like to fight a great fighter who has become an even greater fighter. Zab will continue to make highlight reels with his crushing power and the fastest hands in boxing. He is determined to be the best, and anyone in his way will learn that the hard way."
The undercard for Judah-Clark is expected to be announced within the upcoming couple of weeks, and tickets for this bill are currently available through TicketMaster.
