Bellator Invades Mahalia Jackson Theatre in New Orleans on September 9th

Chicago, Ill. (Saturday, September 4, 2010) – Bellator Fighting Championships will head into the Mahalia Jackson Theatre in New Orleans next Thursday, and the main card for that bill has now been finalized. This trip marks Bellator’s first event in New Orleans, and the night will be headlined by a lightweight pairing of Carey Vanier (9-3) and UFC veteran Rich “No Love” Clementi (37-16-1).

"We’re happy to be headed to New Orleans," Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney stated. “This event has some great fights scheduled, and it should make for a great night of fights for New Orleans fans."

Vanier enters the Bellator cage on Thursday for the first time since Bellator 17, where he suffered a submission loss to Toby Imada in the semifinals of the Season 2 Lightweight Tournament. The Minnesota native advanced to that bout in the competition after a third round TKO of Joe Duarte at Bellator 13. The win over Duarte was his seventh consecutive victory before having that streak snapped by Imada.

Clementi will enter the Bellator cage as one of the most experienced Mixed Martial Artists in the game. Currently 34 years old, the former UFC and Navy veteran has 54 professional fights on his resume. The Edison, New Jersey, native has won five of his last six bouts, and Bellator 28 marks his first appearance for the promotion. Clementi is not a fighter known for letting a match go the distance, with 20 of his victories ending via submission and another nine being waved off due to TKO or knockout.

The main card at Bellator 28 will also include a middleweight pairing of Season 2 semifinalist Eric Schambari (12-2) and UFC veteran Matt Horwich (25-15-1). A couple of featherweights will also get it on in New Orleans, when Season 2 semifinalist Georgi Karakhanyan (13-2-1) faces WEC veteran Anthony Leone (8-1).
