West Windsor, N.J. (Tuesday, March 17, 2009) – With the first game of their 14th W-League season on the horizon, the New Jersey Wildcats announce today the addition of three-time Monmouth University captain Brittani Heller. The Newton, New Jersey, native will take the field when the Wildcats travel to Long Island to open their season against the Rough Riders on Saturday, May 9th.

“With Brittani being a center back, she can serve as an anchor because she sees the entire field,” Wildcats head coach Dave Barbour commented. “She has definitely taken an early leadership role in training, and we will look for her to be a leader this season.”

In three seasons at Monmouth University, Heller was quickly recognized for her leadership characteristics. She was named captain for the Hawks in just her first season there, and she held onto that captain band for three years. Primarily focusing on defense, she tallied four points on a pair of goals amid her rookie season, with one of her knocks being a game-winner. She followed that season up with a solid junior campaign, notching eight points on three goals (including one game-winning goal) and two helpers. She was honored for her play by being named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Year, while also getting the nod to the All-NEC First Team and NEC All-Tournament Team. During her senior year, Heller recorded seven points on three scores and an assist, while also hitting a pair of game-winners. She was selected to the NEC All-Conference Team and helped Monmouth to their first NEC championship in 11 years. After winning the conference championship, the Hawks advanced to the NCAA Tournament to play Penn State.

“What I love about Brittani is that she will give everything she has all the time,” Wildcats President Kevin McDermott, who first coached Heller at the age of 14, remarked. “She is a winner, someone that you want to go into battle with at any level."

Prior to heading to Monmouth University, Heller captained her club team, PDA Galaxy, to two USYSA Region I Championships and two New Jersey State Cup Championships. During her high school career, she was a four-year letter winner at Newton High School. She received All-Area and All-West Jersey accolades each season, and she twice led the Braves to the state tournament. She also led her team in scoring over her last three years of high school, capping her senior season with All-Group II and All-League honors.

After opening the 2009 season with four consecutive road contests, Heller and the Wildcats will make their home debut at Mercer County Community College on Sunday, June 7th, when they host the Boston Renegades at 4:00 p.m. Tickets for that opener are available now by calling 732-963-9769.
