Undefeated Prospect Making Promotion Debut at Bellator 31

Chicago, Ill. (Saturday, September 18, 2010) – Bellator Fighting Championships has officially announced the signing of undefeated prospect Michael Chandler (3-0), who will join a stacked roster of fighters in the lightweight division. A former NCAA Division I All-American wrestler at the University of Missouri, Chandler is slated to make his promotion debut at Bellator 31 on September 30th at the L’Auberge du Lac Resort in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

“Michael Chandler is a great signing for us at 155,” Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney stated. “He has unlimited potential in the sport. I’m excited to see him progress as a fighter under the Bellator banner.”

Currently fighting out of Xtreme Couture gym in Las Vegas, Chandler wrestled in college alongside Bellator Season 2 Welterweight Tournament Champion Ben Askren and undefeated Strikeforce welterweight Tyron Woodley at the University of Missouri. He was captain of the Missouri wrestling team during his junior and senior year, immediately turning to Mixed Martial Arts after graduation.

“I started training MMA right out of college,” Chandler said. “I took my first training camp with the soon-to-be Bellator Welterweight Champion Ben Askren. My first training camp was with Ben in Canada about three or four weeks after Nationals during my senior year. I always knew I was going to fight, even two years before I started training seriously.”

24-year-old Chandler feels that it is his work rate which will take him to the top of the Bellator rankings.

“I can push the pace harder than anybody at 155,” he continued. “My strength is my ability to keep up a hard pace and my ability to break people. I think it will be hard for anyone to keep up with me. I've been competing my entire life, and now I'm focused on becoming the next Bellator Champion at 155.”

The current Bellator Lightweight Champion is Eddie Alvarez (19-2), who will fight Roger Huerta (21-4) at Bellator 33 in Philadelphia at The Liacouras Center. As stated earlier, Chandler will get his first opportunity to impress Bellator fans when he makes his debut at Bellator 31 on Thursday, September 30th.
