Arnaoutis and Garcia highlight a big night of boxing on October 8th.
Junior Welterweight Bout to be Held at The Arena in Philadelphia
Philadelphia (Monday, September 20, 2010) – Undefeated junior welterweight Danny “Swift” Garcia (18-0, 12 KOs) will return to the ring on Friday, October 8th, when he faces former WBO NABO Light Welterweight Champion “Mighty” Mike Arnaoutis (22-6-2, 10 KOs) at The Arena in South Philadelphia. This show is a cooperative effort of Golden Boy Promotions and Joe Hand Promotions, and eight bouts are currently on tap for the evening.
“I’m very excited to give my hometown another great show and put the City of Philadelphia back on the boxing map,” Garcia stated. “I’m very excited to be fighting Mike, and after this win, all the top junior welterweights in the world will know Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia is for real.”
Garcia returns home to the City of Brotherly Love for what is expected to be one of the greatest tests of his professional career. The heavy-fisted Philadelphia native last fought in July when he knocked out Jorge Romero (17-2) in the ninth round of a scheduled 10-frame bout in Cancun, Mexico. In his last six fights combined, he has only had to go to the judges’ score cards on a single occasion. While he is just 22-years-old, Garcia has been a professional boxer for nearly three years after a stellar amateur career in which he was a 2006 U.S. National Champion.
Arnaoutis, a native of Athens, Greece, who currently calls Atlantic City his home, was once one of the top prospects in the sport, and he hopes to use this fight with Garcia to help return him to the status he once possessed. He first showed a glimpse of his talent on the world stage in 2004 when he battled former IBF Light Welterweight Champion Juan Urango to a draw at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Florida, a bout many feel he should have won. He then backed up that performance by knocking down Jesse Feliciano three times in his next fight to score a first round TKO, and the result won him the vacant WBO NABO Light Welterweight Championship. After some ups and downs since then, Arnaoutis is now looking to right the ship on his career after suffering defeats in three of his last four bouts.
The 10-round Garcia-Arnaoutis main event highlights a great night of boxing which will co-feature unbeaten lightweight Michael Perez (9-0-1, 4 KOs) from Newark, New Jersey. Tickets for the event are on sale now, and they can be purchased through either promotional group or by calling The Arena at 267-687-7560. The venue, which was formerly called The New Alhambra, is located at 7 West Ritner Street in Philadelphia.
