With its season opener on November 20th quickly approaching, the Jersey Express of the American Basketball Association (ABA) announced on Monday the addition of five new players. The Express also confirmed on Friday the launch of its own mobile application, which is now available through iTunes.
“I can’t wait to start the season,” Express head coach Casaundra Smith stated. “These new gentlemen should keep us on track to what we’re looking to accomplish as a franchise. We now have versatility and depth at various positions, as well as an inside presence. Their coming aboard keeps us in the hunt for that elusive ABA title, and this upcoming season for the Jersey Express may be the best one yet. Hope to see you at our home games, so you can partake in our exceptional success!”
Keeping in line with their commitment to developing local talent, all five of the new players aboard the Express roster come from New Jersey or New York. The additions include guards Jan Cocozziello (6-2; Westfield, NJ) and John King (6-1; Brooklyn, NY), forwards Dexter Gray (6-6; Mount Vernon, NY) and Collin Watson (6-8; Mount Vernon, NY), as well as center Hensley Charles (6-9; Newark, NJ).
"First and foremost, I would like to thank God and my family for their support and guidance,” King said of his signing. “I would also like to thank Marsha Blount and Coach Casaundra Smith for giving me this opportunity. This will be a productive and historic journey for the team and myself.”
King was also quick to voice his excitement about the upcoming season.
“I know we are all more than ready for this season to begin,” he continued. “I want to thank all of our fans in advance who will come out and support our team, and we are delighted to give everyone a fun and exciting season. I am looking forward to taking this journey with the Express family!"
In other developing news with the Express, the team has officially created its own mobile application, which is now available for free on iTunes. With the app, fans can keep up with all of the latest information regarding the Express, as well as participate in exclusive team promotions.
“We are excited to be the first ever ABA Team to introduce an iPhone and VIP Mobile Application,” Express owner Marsha Blount remarked. “With the collective talent that we have going into the season, this is a unique and innovative way to provide information on them. Fans and supporters will be able to follow the Jersey Express via the web, as well as on their mobile device or iPhone, all for free! You'll be able to get updates, information and promotions right to your cell phone with our mobile app.”
Blount also showed her gratefulness to those who helped make the mobile application a reality.
“I'd like to thank ABA CEO Joe Newman, ABA COO Dick Packer, IZIGG owner Craig Walker, Harold Whaley, ABA Director of Technology/Digital Media, and of course Apple, for having the vision and choosing the Express to begin this digital chapter for the league,” she commented.
