Team Will Play Philadelphia Independence on ‘WPS Sunday on FSC’

Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) announced the schedule for opening weekend of the 2011 season on Thursday, and 2009 WPS Champions Sky Blue FC will host the Philadelphia Independence at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10th. The match will take place at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey, and it will also be the season’s debut broadcast of WPS Sunday on FSC (Fox Soccer Channel).

“It’s always nice to have the home opener on TV, especially when it’s against a team that went to the finals last year,” Sky Blue FC head coach Jim Gabarra said. “It’s going to be a really good challenge for us, as every game in this league will be, so we’ll have to jump right into the fire.”

WPS also announced today that Sky Blue FC will play the second game of its 2011 season on Saturday, April 16th, when the team heads down to KSU Soccer Stadium to play the Atlanta Beat. Kickoff for that match is slated for 7:00 p.m.

“With the 2011 season now quickly approaching, the excitement is truly beginning to build within our organization,” General Manager Gioia DiFlumeri stated. “To once again be featured on the opening broadcast of WPS Sunday on FSC only adds to the anticipation we feel. It is going to be a great season for our team and fans, and we cannot wait until April 10th to get it all started!”

Sky Blue FC currently has season tickets on sale for the upcoming season of play, with packages starting as low as $99. The team is also temporarily offering a flex ticket special which offers fans two free game vouchers with the purchase of a full set of 10.
