Kayode Ayeni to Represent East All-Stars on February 26th in Jacksonville
The American Basketball Association (ABA) has announced its 2010-11 All-Star squads, and Jersey Express forward Kayode Ayeni has been selected to represent the East in the annual showcase. The game is scheduled for Saturday, February 26th, with the action taking place in Jacksonville, Florida.
“Kayode is a versatile player who can fill the stat sheet,” Express head coach Casuandra Smith stated. “He is a long, athletic wing guy who also defends. He has three-point range and ball handling skills. He can also create well for himself as well as others.”
Ayeni stands 6-foot-7 and has averaged a double-double this season. On the year, he has regularly turned in 20 points and 10 rebounds on a nightly basis. While very deserved of the honor, Ayeni was quite humbled to receive the All-Star nod.
“First, I would like to thank Coach Sandy, team owner Marsha Blount and the entire Jersey Express organization for giving me an opportunity to play and represent the Jersey Express, on and off the court,” he remarked. “I truly appreciate being selected to the All-Star Team, and I will dedicate the game to my newborn daughter and my Express teammates. Thank you!”
With only 12 players selected to each All-Star roster, ABA President/COO Dick Packer is very confident in the level of talent that will be on display in the game on February 26th.
“I’ve been around basketball for many years,” he said. “This is an outstanding group of players. In my estimation, either of these teams would be NBA playoff teams if given the opportunity. But that’s another story. Fans will be treated to fast-paced, exciting basketball played by players with extraordinary talent and skills. It will be a great game.”
The Jersey Express return to the hardwood this Saturday, February 12th, when the team hosts the Seven City Knights of Virginia, which is currently the fourth ranked team in the league. Tipoff is at 6:00 p.m. at East Orange (NJ) Campus High School, and tickets will be available on the day of the game at the school box office or prior to Saturday by logging onto www.jerseyexpress.net.
