Clifton Native Led Express in Points and Goals Last Year

Newark, N.J. (Monday, April 27, 2009) – The Newark Ironbound Express received some exciting news as their top scorer from last season announced his intentions to return to the team for their sophomore campaign. Former Rutgers standout and Major League Soccer (MLS) draftee Chris Karcz made it official today when he committed to the Express for the upcoming summer.

Karcz was the top scorer for the Express last year, leading the team in both points (22) and goals (10) while also adding a pair of assists to his stat sheet. The Clifton native was twice named to the PDL Team of the Week and received Big Apple Soccer Co-Player of the Week accolades in 2008, turning in his best performance of the season in a playoff berth clinching victory over the Westchester Flames in late July. Karcz powered the Express into the postseason when he tallied eight points on a hat trick and two assists in that 6-2 win over Westchester.

Karcz was a three-time All-Big East selection (2001, 2003, 2004) while playing at Rutgers University, and he finished his collegiate career with 18 goals and 13 assists for the Scarlet Knights. Prior to his successful career at RU, he received All-America accolades while playing at Clifton High School.

Karcz was originally drafted by the Chicago Fire in the third round (27th overall) of the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft. The former Big East standout then trained with clubs in Poland and Germany before trialing with Red Bull New York. He appeared in two reserve games in 2007 for the Red Bulls, playing 77 minutes and earning an assist in a 2-1 win over the Columbus Crew reserves and scoring a goal in a 2-1 loss to the Kansas City reserves.

Season ticket packages for the Express start as low as $25 for kids and $50 for adults. The Express will also be offering a special family season ticket pack for only $99 which includes a pair of adult season passes and two youth season passes for all eight Express home games.
