The Sniper Outpoints David Lopez at Broadway Boxing

Undefeated junior middleweight Delen “The Sniper” Parsley (5-0, 2 KOs) kept his perfect professional record intact on Tuesday night, defeating a game David Lopez (3-5, 3 KOs) at DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing at BB Kings in downtown Manhattan. Parsley stuck to a well scripted game plan to roll to a unanimous decision victory, using his six-inch height advantage to keep Lopez at bay throughout the six rounds of action.

“Everything was good. I felt like I controlled the ring more,” Parsley said of his performance. “I worked well off my jab. He was a crafty southpaw, so I wasn’t trying to go out there, guns-a-blazing, and get caught with a good shot. So I just boxed and made a hard fight easy.”

Parsley, who is a highly notable counter puncher, came into this affair with a calm and focused demeanor, all the while living up to his “Sniper” nickname as he spotted and picked out his spots as they came. As the rounds progressed, he continued to turn up the tempo and loaded up on more combinations. Lopez did have a nice outing in the fourth round, but Parsley remained in control for the majority of the other five frames.

“I went in there to do one job,” Parsley remarked. “I got it done, and I did it the right way. I’m 6-3, he’s 5-9. What am I going to go down there and bang with him for? I just kept on the jab. I heard people saying ‘go to the body’ – for what? I feel like I made a fight easy. I didn’t have to overexert myself, and I came off with the unanimous decision.”

When the judges’ score cards were revealed after the six rounds of action, Parsley led on all three counts, twice getting a 59-54 tally and also receiving a 58-56 decision.

Parsley will now look to test the waters of the middleweight division, but he expects to take a couple of bouts at a catch weight in the 157-158 pound range to gauge his body at that weight. With his fifth fight now in the books, he hopes for his sixth professional bout to come within the next month.
