Sky Blue FC Travels to Boston for Fox Soccer Channel Telecast

Sky Blue FC (0-1-1, 1 point) will face the Boston Breakers (1-2-0, 3 points) in an early season road test on Sunday night, with both teams looking to pick three important points in Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) action. The game, which will be broadcasted live on Fox Soccer Channel, is set for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff at Harvard Stadium.

“This is a big game for both teams, maybe one of the biggest of the season so far. Both teams need to get a result,” Sky Blue FC head coach Jim Gabarra remarked. “It is going to be a very competitive game, and we know going in how difficult it is to play in Boston. We have to not only defend well, but we also have to take care of the chances we create. Boston has a very good back four, and I do not expect us to get as many chances as we have in the first couple of games. I know Tony (DiCicco, Breakers head coach) will have them prepared to defend well.”

After rolling to a 4-1 victory over the Atlanta Beat in its 2011 season opener, Boston has stumbled in its last two outings, a pair of losses to the Western New York Flash and magicJack SC. Sky Blue FC stormed to a 2-0 advantage in its first match of the year against Philadelphia, but the Independence leveled the terms in the 90th minute to force a one-point result. The team was then stunned by Atlanta in its second game, 1-0, despite holding an 18-3 shot advantage.

“We are facing a very competitive Boston side that has great depth,” Sky Blue FC assistant coach Rick Stainton stated. “They possess good team chemistry and collective speed. We have been working hard to get a balanced offensive attack to counter those aspects, and we will look to translate it into this match.”

Sky Blue FC will see a familiar face on the opposing bench on Sunday night, as the team traded forward Kiersten Dallstream to the Breakers this week in exchange for a second round pick in the 2011 WPS Draft. This contest is the second of three consecutive games away from home for the team before returning to Yurcak Field on Saturday, May 21st, to host the Beat at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for that outing are available now by calling 888-SBFC-TIX.
