Pennsylvania Venue will Host Fall Brawl for a Cure on October 22nd
Waterbucket Media, in association with PPL Park, announced on Wednesday at a press conference that the venue will host the first-ever men’s college lacrosse games on Saturday, October 22nd. Highlighted by a double-header that will involve four college programs, the Fall Brawl for a Cure will be a day-long event with fundraising efforts being conducted to benefit cancer research.
“We’re very happy to welcome Fall Brawl for a Cure, the American Cancer Society and the Loyola, Sienna, Stony Brook and Villanova men’s lacrosse teams to the Chester Waterfront in October,” commented Nick Sakiewicz, Philadelphia Union CEO & Operating Partner. “PPL Park has already proven to be a world class soccer facility, and we are excited to show that the stadium is an ideal destination for any sporting event.”
On the day of the Fall Brawl for a Cure, gates will open at 8:00 a.m. with youth games getting underway at 9:00 a.m. and being played throughout the day on the outside of the facility. The feature portion of the event will then kick-off that afternoon as four renowned college programs participate in a double-header. The first pairing will pit Stony Brook University against Loyola University at 3:00 p.m., followed up by Villanova University taking on Sienna College at 5:00 p.m. Prior to the start of those final two games, various college teams will be scrimmaging during the day.
“We are looking forward to a great day of college and youth lacrosse working together to help fight cancer,” said Jim Jennings, President of Waterbucket Media. “We think this is going to be a huge success because of the great facility at PPL Park, and we look for this to be an annual event.”
Being part of this inaugural event is something that holds a special purpose for those involved, including the coaches who will see their teams take the field on October 22nd.
“We are honored to participate in the first annual Fall Brawl for a Cure event,” stated Rick Sowell, head men’s lacrosse coach at Stony Brook University. “It's a unique opportunity that allows our team to play at a wonderful facility against top notch competition while raising proceeds for the American Cancer Society. It's a great way for our young men to be involved in an event that will further aid in the awareness and support the research to detect and fight against various cancers that affect all Americans directly or indirectly. It's a win/win for our program and we look forward to October 22nd.”
