Team Travels to Rochester for Friday Pairing

Sky Blue FC (0-2-1, 1 point) faces a huge road test on Friday night, traveling north to Sahlen Stadium in Rochester to take on the first place Western New York Flash (2-0-1, 7 points). The match is the lone outing on tap this evening in Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) action, with each of the remaining clubs in the league playing on Sunday.

“We had a good week of training,” Sky Blue FC head coach Jim Gabarra stated. “We put in a game plan specifically for tonight against Western New York. Obviously, they have a deep and talented attacking roster, and we will have to defend as a group to deny them opportunities.”

This pairing is the third of three consecutive road games for Sky Blue FC, and Gabarra said that finishing will play a critical role in ending the long trip on a positive note.

“We have to do a better job specifically in the second half,” he remarked. “Overall, we have to be patient and trust that we are a possession team. We must continue to stick to that game plan and take advantage of the chances we create. I am confident they will come. We just need to put them away.”

With Western New York currently sitting atop the WPS Table, Sky Blue FC is presented a huge opportunity to close the gap in the standings, and Gabarra says the team is excited about the chance to do just that.

“We certainly have a tough match-up on a huge field against a team that is made for a big field because they are so fast and talented,” he commented. “It is a big challenge for us, but we are certainly looking forward to it.”

Following this contest with the Flash, Sky Blue FC will finally return home to Yurcak Field on Saturday, May 21st, to host the Atlanta Beat at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for that outing are available now by calling 888-SBFC-TIX.
