Express Facing Weekend Back-to-Back

All Moms Free When Express Hosts New Hampshire on Sunday

Newark, N.J. (Friday, May 8, 2009) – The Newark Ironbound Express (0-1-0) are heading into as critical a weekend as possible this early in the season, looking at a pair of division match-ups in two days. The Express are currently stuck in an early three-point hole after being handed a 2-1 defeat by the first-place Brooklyn Knights (1-0-0) last Sunday at Lubetkin Field.

Brooklyn had an obvious game plan for the season opener last weekend, and they performed it nearly to perfection. Newark was unable to adjust during intermission after a late first half goal put them down, 1-0, and the Knights continued their path during the second 45 to show why they are the defending Northeast Division champions. The Express are now facing an uphill climb going into the second weekend of the young PDL season with a loss already under their belts. While Newark was able to secure a wild card into the Eastern Conference playoffs in just their first season last year, they did so by losing only two contests over the course of their 16-game schedule.

On tap for the Express is a Saturday night pairing with the New Jersey Rangers (0-0-1) on the road before returning to Lubetkin Field on Sunday for a 4:00 p.m. match with the New Hampshire Phantoms (0-0-1). The lone game of the year thus far for both clubs was when they squared off against one another in their season opener last Saturday night. Thanks to a late notch by Phantom forward Baran Doenmez, the contest ended with both teams knotted up at one each.

When Newark hosts New Hampshire at NJIT this Sunday, all moms will receive free admission in honor of Mother’s Day.
