Former NBA First Round Pick Assumes Multiple Roles for ABA Club

The Jersey Express of the American Basketball Association (ABA) officially announced on Wednesday that former National Basketball Association (NBA) First Round pick Luther Wright has taken over as the team’s Player Development, Life Strengthening and Big Man Coach. The former Elizabeth High School and Seton Hall University standout joins the team in an effort to develop the team on all levels, and his role with the organization will extend into all departments of the Express.

“My position with the Jersey Express is a real chance of a lifetime,” Wright stated. “I feel that my basketball experiences on every level I ever played allow for me to share knowledge, wisdom and to guide the next generation of players toward that next level. Also, I look to give back to my community and be an advocate for change.”

After a highly successful college career at Seton Hall, Wright was selected 18th overall by the Utah Jazz in the 1993 NBA Draft. What he experienced in his journey to the top professional ranks is something that Express executives hope can lead its current players down the same path of success.

“Luther can show the players that with hard work and teamwork, they can reach goals that are unbelievable to some, and for others they too can be a 'Perfect Fit',” said Jeffrey Brown, Sr., Jersey Express spokesman. “Off the court, he can share his story about the ups and downs of not having the right people around you, as well as the triumph of recovery and finding your 'Perfect Fit'.”

Team owner Marsha Blount was also excited about the addition of Wright to the staff.

“With every player signing, with every coach that sits at the helm and with every partnership formed, my goal has been constant: build relationships, give back and provide opportunities,” she remarked. “Luther Wright comes from where each player that plays for the Express wants to go, the League! He brings the story that needs to be told. High school and college superstar, NBA First Round Draft Pick, million dollar contract… then rags to Christ strength. His role as our Player Development, Life Strengthening, and Big Man Coach is probably the most important role to date.”

The Jersey Express will be holding tryouts at the Newark YMCA on August 13th for all players who wish to join the team, with the trials beginning at 5:00 p.m. For more information on the Express, make sure to visit the official team website at www.jerseyexpress.netin addition to checking them out on Facebook and Twitter.
